When the 90-degree summer temperatures send the transplants back into their air-conditioned apartments, the die-hard New Yorkers come out of the woodwork to enjoy uncrowded museums, relaxed Broadway matinees, and concert tickets galore! Let's explore some of our favorite things to do in NYC this summer:
- Why not take advantage of the many public and free events that take place throughout New York's summertime, including Shakespeare in the Park, free of admission thanks to the Public Theater. This summer's production is Taming of the Shrew, complete with an all-female cast, so head to Central Park bright and early for a good seat! Other events you shouldn't miss out on include the Macy's Fourth of July Fireworks Show and the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest down in Coney Island!
- Take a short ride to Randall's Island this June and watch some of your favorite artists perform. At the annual Governor's Ball music festival, you can catch exciting acts like The Killers, Death Cab for Cutie, Meg Mac, the Knock, Matt and Kim, and of course, Kanye West himself. #YeezySeason
- Need a tour guide for the kids? New York City is teaming up with none other than the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, recently naming these characters the Official NYC Family Ambassadors. Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello, and Michelangelo have been put in charge of picking out their favorite things to do in NYC with kids this summer, so take their advice before bringing your children to the Big Apple.
- Need to relax? Head out of the city and into New York's unoffical sixth borough - Fort Lauderdale, Florida, of course! Since JetBlue announced an expending presence at Newark Liberty International Airport, they've launched flight frequencies between their five most popular desinations in Florida, including Tampa, Palm Beach, Orlando, and Fort Meyers. Still, the cheapest flights to Florida are headed to Fort Lauderdale, so book with JetBlue for the best deals!
