Veg New York: Vegetarian and Vegan Food Trucks Around NYC

By Travel Savvy

Food trucks are no longer the hot new thing on the scene. They've become common on street corners throughout New York, and for good reason: when you're hungry and pressed for time, these restaurants-on-wheels can serve up healthy alternatives to fast food. Other food movements that have quietly become mainstream? Vegetarianism, veganism, and gluten-free eating. These NYC-area food trucks have married these trends together, and are serving up delicious dishes road-side.

Flavorful and vegetarian-friendly Middle-Eastern cuisine will satisfy even the most restricted eater. Popular food truck Taim Mobile has earned a steady fan base due to their strictly vegetarian menu. In fact, it's mostly vegan, as only three items on the menu include animal byproducts. Plus, their falafel is gluten-free.

What's hipper than eating gluten-free and vegan? Doing a juice cleanse. Get your fix out of the Green Pirate Juice Truck. They run a sustainable and environmentally conscious business, in that the truck runs on biodiesel fuel, they compost all organic waste matter and serve their juice in compostable corn plastic cups. Of course, you'll find them in Brooklyn

Okay, so it's not technically a food truck anymore, but The Cinnamon Snail still deserves a spot on the list. Permit-expenses and logistics forced the owners of this uber-popular truck to eventually find a more permanent home in 2015. The local favorite can be found on the corner of 33rd St and 7th Ave at The Pennsy, an NYC food hall.

Since The Cinnamon Snail made the list even though it's not technically a food truck, The Green Radish has to even though it's not technically in NYC. Servicing Jersey City, The Green Radish is everything a vegetarian food truck should be. They boast of "delicious plant based food," and only use the freshest ingredients for their varied menu. Grab a black bean burger, rosemary fries or a daily-made shake. You can keep up with them and the day's chosen locations by consulting their Facebook, Instagram or Twitter pages.
