Open Monday through Thursday 11:00AM - 9:00PM; Friday and Saturday 11:00AM - 10:00PM

For Jeff and Joy Stehney, Kansas City barbecue is a way of life. The husband-and-wife team behind Joe's Kansas City Bar-B-Que probably never thought they were going to open up one of the city’s most acclaimed BBQ joints when they attended a local BBQ festival in 1990 at the invitation of a friend. One taste of smokey charred perfection coupled with the camaraderie and friendly competition amongst vendors to see who could create meaty perfection, and the couple was hooked.

Today, the flagship location of their chain of restaurant sits next to a gas station, but don't let the modest curbside appearance fool you...Joe's KC is one of the most popular eateries in the city. Some of our favorite menu options include the Pulled Pork and The Z-Man Sandwich, and of course their ribs excellent!

Tenderloin Grill

900 Southwest Blvd

www.tenderloingrill.com

Open Monday through Thursday 11:00AM - 6:00PM; Friday and Saturday 11:00AM - 8:00PM

If it isn't broken, don't fix it -- especially when it's deliciously prepared pork! Luckily, the current owners of Tenderloin Grill use the same recipes from 1932 when this Grill was a simple food wagon parked by the roadside. While the eatery finally found its home in a building right across the street from the original wagon's location, it has been serving the same pork-focused menu for over 80 years, dressing all of the sandwiches with mustard, a secret home-made hot sauce, horseradish, onion and tomato. When you go, make sure you try their delicious hand battered pork tenders -- that's what their famous for! Or, go for the snoot if you're not easily put off by the sight of a nose on your plate. Either way, you'll be glad you stopped in at this local favorite.

Open Sunday through Saturday 9:00AM - 7:30PM

The Local Pig, a butcher shop and charcuterie that only offers locally farmed and humanely raised meats, opened its own little sandwich shop right next door -- Pigwich. Look for a rotating daily sandwich special in addition to the five served regularly. Yes, the menu is limited, but the quality is second to none and priced right, at $7. Stop by for their beloved Pigwich Sandwich, comprised of smoked pork, slaw and bbq sauce, or one of their other delectable options.
